The following letter was sent to Principal Campbell from Dale Jensen ’45 earlier this year. He gave us permission to republish it here:
To: Principal, Benson Polytechnic High School
From: Dale Jensen
Subject: Benson Alumni Success
I graduated from Benson in January 1945 with poor academic credentials. Education didn’t seem important to me. Fortunately, I was drafted into the United States Army in 1950. It changed my life. I was very impressed with the officers from the United States Military Academy, & I had the benefit of the G.I. Bill after I was discharged. I used that to get an education, second to none, & a degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Washington. I have, since then, had a very successful life (see closures). I thought you should know that your students do go on to become successful citizens.
Dale L. Jensen P.E.
P.S. I have a letter from Benson for being a Cheer Leader, & I was a member of the Student Council
He went on to include his extensive resume which includes two professional engineering licenses and jobs with Rockwell International, Northrop Corporation and McDonnell-Douglas. For the past 22 years he has owned JENTEC, Technology, Engineering, & Consulting in Lawndale, California. You can find him on LinkedIn here:
