Help rebuild Benson’s College and Career Center

The Benson High School counseling staff has been working very hard to create a career center on campus to open in Fall 2013. They have a unique opportunity to reconstruct an old office area, connected with the counseling center. This space would give volunteers the opportunity to work with students, helping them to research and apply to colleges, discover scholarship opportunities and explore other post high school options.

There are two opportunities for you to help!

Phase I: Construction – June 24-July 3, 2013
Volunteers:
Monday, June 24: Demolition (taking down cabinets, cubicles, etc.)
Tuesday – Friday, June 26-28: Volunteers for painting, placing floor tiles, etc.

Donations:
Dumpster for one day on Monday, June 24
Rodda Paint

If you can volunteer and/or donate the this construction effort, contact Amy Henry, counselor via email.

Phase II: Volunteer in Career Center – Sept. 2013 – June 2014

Volunteers:
Commitment:

  • 2 hours per week, every other week (twice per month)
  • Attend a 2-hour training in August

Volunteers would be available in the College and Career Center to assist students who “drop in” for help with college, career and scholarship research. As the volunteer base grows, volunteers might be assigned to work one-on-one with students who need help with their post high school plans.

A 2-hour training will be provided for volunteers before they work in the center. This training will include an orientation to the center and programs/materials used for researching information. No experience is needed to work in the center… just a desire to help students. Volunteers are assigned to work with another volunteer during each shift.

To volunteer, contact Lori Delman, Community Volunteer via email.
